Prof. Christian Buchmann was born in 1967 in Austria, is married and a father of two children.

At the age of 4, he received his first violin lessons from his father, Prof. Rudolf Buchmann. Subsequently, he was a student at the Music School of the City of Vienna and from the age of 16 onwards, a student at the Vienna Music University. Engagements as an orchestra-violinist have taken him to the Salzburg Festival, where he was on stage under the baton of Claudio Abbado. He was member of the Stage-Orchestra of the Austrian Federal Theatres. He has also been active as a violinist with Viennese orchestras on tours of Japan and China.

In 1983, at the age of 16, he entered his family’s artist management agency Künstlersekretariat Buchmann GmbH, and since 2016 he has been the sole executive director. Founded as a family business by his father, the company is highly active in the worldwide management of the most important Austrian orchestras, artists, and ensembles. The company’s focus are strong relationships with East- and South-East Asia, Australia as well as the whole of Europe and South America. In combination with the international arts management, Prof. Christian Buchmann and his Father are also supporting the international business relationship of Austria with Japan, China, Korea, and Taiwan.

Since 1995 he has been executive managing director of the famous Vienna Chamber Orchestra, which was founded in 1946. The orchestra annually performs up to 100 concerts. Its sphere of activity extends from Austria to the whole world, with a repertoire ranging from chamber music to symphonic music, yet it is one of the main representatives of the Viennese Classical music period.

The Summerfestival Kittsee (Burgenland) which was founded by the Family Buchmann, has become an important part of his professional season. As the intendant, he has been responsible for the development since 2017. This festival has already become an indispensable part of Austria’s cultural life. In 2020, the Summerfestival Kittsee was one of the very few festivals which took place despite the global crisis. On the occasion of the premiere in 2017, exactly on his 50th birthday, Christian Buchmann was awarded a badge of honour by the state Burgenland by the former governor Hans Niessl.

In addition to his daily business, Prof. Christian Buchmann has been developing a human resource online management platform (YOOL) since 2010. Today, one of the clients is the Vienna Music University. YOOL is a significant pioneering achievement for the future of orchestras and musical organizations.

In July 2021, Christian Buchmann was awarded the title “Professor” by the Federal Ministry Republic of Austria Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport for his longstanding merits to the art and culture sector.
